知的障害者に対する教育は充実している。
障害のある子供達のための学校があります。
この学校は、特別支援学校と呼ばれています。
障害の種類には、知的障害、肢体不自由、病弱、視覚障害、聴覚障害があります。
私は、2月21日、知的障害者に対する特別支援学校に出前講座を行うために行きました。
その学校の場所は、狭山清陵高校の一階の一部にありました。
一学年15人までということで、全部生徒がそろっても45人の学校です。
生徒たちの知能レベルは小学校5年生と同じくらいだと聞きました。
先生方は10人ぐらいいるようでした。とても先生が多いと感じました。
彼らは、卒業するとすぐに就職するそうです。
パン作りとかの工場に務めることになるので、在学中からパン作りの実習があるそうです。
私が出前講座を担当したのは高校2年生15人のクラスです。
ところが、実習のために外に出ている生徒がいるということで、8人しかいませんでした。
私は、通常の講話よりも時間があるので、生徒に時々質問して時間をとって講義しようとしました。
しかし担当の先生は、実習時間を入れるように変更を提案してきました。彼らの特性から実際に身体を動かす事を入れなければならないという判断だったと思います。
実習は、担任の先生が、剣道の実演と生徒に基本打ちを経験させました。たまたま、担当の先生と教頭先生は剣道の経験者ということで、二人が実演をしていました。
通常の学校では考えられないくらい、先生方が積極的に生徒に直接教えようとしていました。
生徒は、私の話全体を理解していないと思います。しかし、よく 話を聞いてくれました。
素直だと思いました。
彼らは、先生からの指示に対しては素直に従っていました。直ぐに就職するのに必要だからと服装態度も良く教育されていました。彼らは、工場等で上司から言われたことはちゃんとできるという感じでした。
私は、今回、知的障害者に対する教育が大変充実していることを初めて知ることができました。
There is a good education for the intellectually disabled.
There is a school for children with disabilities.
This school is called a special needs school.
The types of disabilities include intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, poor health disabilities, visual impairments, and hearing impairments.
On February 21st, I went to a special needs school for the intellectually disabled to give a lecture.
The school is located on the first floor of Sayama Seiryo High School.
There are a maximum of 15 students per grade, so the school has 45 students even when fully enrolled.
I heard that the students’ intelligence level is about the same as that of a fifth-grader in elementary school.
There seem to be about 10 teachers. I felt that there were a lot of teachers.
They will be getting jobs as soon as they graduate.
They will be working in a bread factory, so they will have bread-making training while they are still in school.
I gave the lecture to a class of 15 second-year high school students.
However, there were only 8 students because some students were away for training at a factory.
Since I had more time than usual for a lecture, I tried to lecture the students by asking them questions from time to time.
However, the teacher in charge suggested a change to include practical activity time. I think she decided that it was necessary from the students’ characteristics to include some physical activity.
At the practical activity, the teacher in charge demonstrated kendo and had the students experience basic strikes. As it happened, the teacher in charge and the vice principal both had experience in kendo, so they were demonstrating it.
The teachers were proactive in trying to teach the students directly, which is unthinkable in a normal school.
I don’t think the students understood everything I said. But they listened gently.
I thought they were obedient.
They obediently followed the instructions from the teacher. They were also well trained in how to dress and behave, as it was necessary for them to get a job right away. They seemed to be able to do what their superiors told them to do at the factory, etc.
This was the first time I realized that education for the intellectually disabled is very substantial.
