私は、平和憲法を守りたいという人の心情がわかった。
私は、５８年前の高校生1年の時から、自衛隊は違憲だから廃止するべきだという人の気持ちがわかりませんでした。
誰も、説明してくれる人がいません。
ホームルームの時間に、「自衛隊は廃止するべきではないか。」という問題が話し合われました。圧倒的多数が、廃止するべきだという意見でした。反対したのは、男二人でした。
私は、戦争になることもあるのに、どうして軍備がなくても良いと考えるのだろうと思っていました。
先日同じ民生委員の大木さんと話をする機会がありました。
彼は、こう言いました。
「若い時は、反戦デモをするような学生は嫌いでした。ところが、長い人生経験の末に自衛隊を廃止して、世界の災害派遣隊にしたら良いと思うようになった。
戦争は、勝っても負けても得することなんか何もありません。この世の中、インターネットで民間人が交流できる時代で、外交努力で戦争なんか防げるんじゃないですかね。
私の軍隊がないという考えは、理屈じゃないんですよ。長い間生きてきた私の感情なんです。」
それを聞いて、私は、今までの疑問が解けました。大木さんは、人の理性やこれからの人々を心から信じている人だと思いました。
要するに、私は人を信じていないんです。人類の知恵とか未来の人々を信頼していないのです。
平和憲法を守りたいという人には、人を信頼するという美しい心情があるのです。
私は、疑い深い人間なんだとわかりました。そして、平和憲法を守りたいという人は美しい心を持った人だと初めて気づきました。

No one could explain it to me.

I wondered why people thought that there was no need for armaments, even though war could happen.
The other day I had a chance to talk to Mr. Oki, a fellow welfare committee member.
He said this to me: “When I was young, I hated students who held anti-war demonstrations. However, after many life experiences, I came to think that we should abolish the Self-Defense Forces and turn them into a disaster relief force for the world.
There is no benefit to be gained from winning or losing a war. In this world where civilians can communicate with each other through the Internet, I think that wars can be prevented through diplomatic efforts.
My opinion that there should be no military is not based on logic. It is my own feeling that I have lived for a long time.”
Hearing this, my doubts were cleared up. I thought that Mr. Oki is a person who truly believes in human reason and the people of the future.
In short, I do not trust people. I do not trust the wisdom of humanity or the people of the future.
People who want to protect the peace constitution have a beautiful heart that trusts people.
I realized that I am a skeptical person. And for the first time, I realized that people who want to protect the peace constitution have beautiful hearts.
