私は英語の生徒を3人持っています。8歳の小学校3年生が2人、10歳の小学校5年生が1人です。
このうち小学校3年生2人の教育が難しくて困っています。
小学生低学年のこのような問題にどのように対応しているのかを、知人の小学校の先生に聞いてみました。
彼は、「こんなことで困っているがどうしようもない、高学年になれば落ち着くので待つ以外にない。」と話していました。
そこで、この本を読み始めました。
アメリカの公立学校の約半分の生徒が、貧困家庭で育っているので、非認知能力が欠如していて困っている。教育は、子供たちの非認知能力を育てることに集中して取り組む必要があると言っています。
私の問題と同じです。驚きました。
非認知能力とは、学力テストとかと違って数値で測れない能力です。
例えば 我慢して勉強を続ける という能力、やり遂げる能力のことを言っています。
私は、アメリカでは、こんな問題意識を持って研究している人がいると聞いて嬉しくなりました。
1人の生徒は、母子家庭で集中力がありません。興味が次々に移ってしまいます。
この本をまだ半分しか読んでいません。しかし、解決法がはっきり分かるわけではないと思います。しかし、解決の方向だけは分かると思います。
この本を良く読んで、実際に教育に生かしたいと思います。
今日は、「非認知能力を高める教育」の話でした。
Education to enhance non-cognitive abilities
I have three English students. Two boys, 8-year-old third graders and one girl, 10-year-old fifth grader.
Of these, it is difficult to educate two third grade elementary school boys.
I asked the elementary school teacher whom I know how to deal with such problems in the lower grades of elementary school.
He said, “I’m troubled by this, but there’s nothing I can do about it. I have no choice but to wait for it to calm down when I get to the upper grades.”
So I started reading this book.
About half of the students in public schools in America suffer from non cognitive deficiencies because they come from poor families. So they say that education needs to focus on developing children’s non-cognitive skills.
It’s the same as my problem. I was surprised.
Non-cognitive abilities are abilities that cannot be measured numerically, unlike academic tests.
For example, ability to persevere and continue studying, ability to get things done.
I was happy to hear that there are people in the United States who are doing research with this kind of awareness.
One boy has trouble concentrating in a single-mother household. His interests keep shifting.
I have only read half of this book. But I don’t think the solution is clear. But I think I know the direction of the solution.
I would like to read this book carefully and make use of it in my education.
Today was the story of “Education to enhance non-cognitive abilities”.
