私は、今になって、現役世代の後輩たちに、このメッセージを伝えたいと思う。
どうしてこんな事を伝えたいのかというと、私は、若い時、間違って考えていたからです。
私は、15年前に自衛隊を定年退職する時、「人は、老人になったら、何もすることがなくなって、退屈して、死んで行くのだのだろう。」と思っていました。
ところが、現実はそうではありません。
私は、毎日忙しいです。周囲の老人たちも忙しそうです。英語クラブのシニアのメンバーも忙しそうです。
どうして忙しいのかというと、三つの理由があります。
一つ目の理由は、定年退職になれば、やりたいことがあれば、何でもやることができるからです。
例えば、絵を描きたいのであれば、同好会は、至る所にありますし、絵を描くために、国内は勿論、外国まで行くことができます。
書道でも、太極拳でも、落語でも、何でも好きなものがあれば、同好会に参加することできます。同好の友人もたくさん作ることができます。
二つ目の理由は、終活をしなければならないことです。
死は、迫っていますので、その中で、写真の整理、相続の準備とかを子供のためにしなければなりません。これは、難しい仕事なので時間がいくらあってもたりません。
三つめは、時々、病院にいかねばなりません。
老人は、病気になっている暇はないのですが、どうしても色々な病気になります。それで、時には治療のために時間がかかるのです。
3つの理由によって老人は忙しいのです。
しかし、老人は、色々と好きなことができて、現役時代よりずっと楽しいです。
老人は決して退屈しないのです。

I now want to convey this message to my juniors in the working generation.
The reason I want to convey this is because I was thinking wrong when I was young. When I retired from the Self-Defense Forces 15 years ago, I thought, “When the man grows old, he’ll have nothing to do, he’ll be bored, and he’ll die.” ..
However, the reality is not so. I am busy every day. The old people around me are also likely to be busy. Ripple’s senior members are also likely to be busy.
There are three reasons why the old man is busy.
The first reason is that once you reach retirement age, you can do whatever you want. For example, if you want to draw, there are clubs everywhere, and you can go to foreign countries as well as domestic to draw.
Whether it’s calligraphy, tai chi, or whatever you like, you can join the club. You can make many friends in the club.
The second reason is that we have to prepare for our death. We have to organize photos and prepare for the inheritance procedure for our children. This is a difficult task, so the old man consumes much time.
Third, the old man sometimes has to go to the hospital.
The old man does not have time to get sick, but he does get various illnesses. So sometimes it takes time for treatment.
The old man is busy for three reasons.
However, old people can do various things and have much more fun than when they were in the workplace.
The old man never gets bored.
