この本は、友人から「良い本だから読め」と言われ、送っていただきました。
1996年の出版ですから、25年前に出版されています。
主要なメッセージは、「ヨーロッパの特有の地理的条件が、肉食という食生活及び文化・慣習を作った。」というものです。常識的な視点からの研究ですが、この視点からの歴史を研究した人はいなかったのです。
私は、この本で、どうしてヨーロッパ人は捕鯨を嫌うのか、初めて理解しました。
私は、ヨーロッパ人は牛や豚をを食べているではないか、どうしてクジラを捕まえて食べてはいけないのだろう、と疑問に思っていました。
