杖道とは、杖を使用する武道です。杖は、長さ128cm、直径2.4cmの白樫でできています。
私は、7月から居合と共に杖道を習っています。
私は、どうして学ぶのでしょうか。
先日、話したように、私は、外国人から教えられて、居合を学び始めました。
剣道を学ぶ人は、居合や杖道も同時に練習していました。
彼らは、日本の武道のすべて、空手、柔道、合気道、弓道、忍術などに興味がありました。
今度、居合を始めるに当たり先生の所に行ったら、先生は、居合とともに杖道も教えていました。
謝礼は、ふたつを学んでもひとつを学んでも変わりませんので、ふたつを学ぶことにしました。
どうして外国人は、杖道を学ぶのでしょうか。これも、剣道と同じように、様式美を感じるからだと思います。
では、どうして日本にだけ、武道の様式化が進んだのでしょうか。それは、長い平和な徳川時代があったからだと思います。
戦闘がない平和な時代が続いたので、弟子に戦闘方法を教えてゆくために、時間をかけて色々の形を作ることができました。
一方、中国、韓国、西欧諸国では、平和が長く続く時代が少なかったので、時間をかけて形をつくるというのができなかったのだと思います。
このため、杖道が残ったのだと思います。
杖道は、変な武道がです。
それは、人を疵つけないという不殺の理念にあります。

Why am I learning?
As I said the other day, I was taught by a foreigner and started learning Iai.
Those who learned kendo were practicing Iai and cane at the same time.
Many foreigner were interested in all of Japanese martial arts, karate, judo, aikido, kyudo, ninjutsu, etc.
End of June I went to the teacher to start Iai, I found he taught Iai Jyo at the same time.
The class fee does not change whether I learn two or one, so I decided to learn two.
Why do foreigners learn Jyodo, the cane fight? I think this is also because they feel the beauty of style, just like in Kendo.
Then why was the stylization of martial arts advanced only in Japan? I think that was because there was a long and peaceful Tokugawa period.
As peaceful times continued long without battle, teachers were able to develop various fighting forms over time to teach his disciples.
On the other hand, in China, South Korea, and Western countries, I think it was not possible to develop fighting forms over time because there were short times when peace lasted for a long time.
I think that Jodo, the cane fighting remained for this reason.
The Jodo is a strange martial art.
It lies in the innocuous, not-killing idea that it only punishes bad people.
